Yule

Mom was reading to me about today, which is the shortest day of the year. She was reading that in the far north on this day every year, the sun never reaches the sky. So long ago, northerners used to be afraid that the sun would not come back, so they started traditions and customs to help it come back! So we thought we'd try to help them out this year and do the same. Today we celebrated Yule, the time of midwinter. Aunt Marie came here yesterday (I just saw her the other day in California). We went out and got a tree and put it in the house. It smells great! Very fun. We also read pretty poems and lit candles and toasted to the coming light. Yeah. Mom is happy now.
